About the role
For a regulated medical device and manufacturing environment in the Nijmegen region, we are looking for a Calibration Engineer.
In this role, you are responsible for maintaining a robust, compliant and effective calibration system across site assets. You safeguard the accuracy and reliability of equipment and measurement systems that are critical to manufacturing, testing and quality compliance.
You will also support maintenance, troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure operational excellence, equipment reliability and audit readiness.
You will collaborate closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, Quality and Facilities to ensure equipment performance, compliance and continuous improvement across the site.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure all equipment and measuring instruments are calibrated in a timely, compliant and efficient manner.
- Maintain calibration activities in line with internal standards and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and maintain the master calibration schedule.
- Minimise the impact of calibration activities on daily operations.
- Coordinate and prioritise calibration work orders.
- Ensure accurate and timely execution and documentation by internal teams or external vendors.
- Review calibration results and determine equipment status.
- Ensure proper labelling and segregation of non-conforming or overdue instruments.
- Maintain accurate and compliant calibration records in the CMMS system.
- Support calibration and qualification of new equipment.
- Ensure new equipment is correctly implemented within the calibration system.
- Maintain and update local calibration procedures and templates.
- Analyse calibration data to define and optimise calibration intervals.
- Develop in-house calibration capabilities where applicable.
- Contribute to new calibration method development.
- Participate in projects and continuous improvement initiatives related to calibration and engineering processes.
- Manage spare parts inventory for calibration instruments.
- Support audit readiness at all times.
- Support preventive maintenance activities to ensure reliable equipment performance.
- Contribute to structured problem-solving, including root-cause analysis and CAPA implementation.
- Raise and support non-conformances related to calibration activities.
- Work in full compliance with GMP, ISO, safety, environmental and internal procedures.
Requirements
You are a structured and technically strong calibration professional with a solid understanding of metrology, regulated environments and equipment compliance. You are able to manage calibration priorities, assess technical results and work effectively with both internal stakeholders and external vendors.
You communicate clearly, build strong working relationships and understand the importance of audit readiness, documentation and equipment reliability in a regulated manufacturing environment.
Your background
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is preferred.
- Educational background in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electromechanics, Electronics, Metrology, Instrumentation or a related field is preferred.
- 4 to 6 years of relevant experience in related technical fields is preferred.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in calibration.
- Strong knowledge of calibration and metrology is required.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in the medical device, pharmaceutical or medical field is preferred.
- Knowledge of GMP and/or ISO 13485 is preferred.
- Experience with information systems such as ERP, Maximo, quality systems or documentation control systems is preferred.
- Ability to work cooperatively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to build strong working relationships, trust and credibility at all levels.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
- Fluent in Dutch, both written and spoken, is mandatory.
