About the role

For a biotechnology and vaccine development environment in Boxmeer, we are looking for a Senior Scientist – Process.

In this role, you will contribute to a vaccine formulation team focused on the development and transfer of new vaccine formulations, including adjuvant formulations and stabilisers. The work focuses on product composition, where excipients are screened and evaluated to improve vaccine performance.

As Senior Scientist, you will act as project lead for one or more projects and project teams. These projects may include new product development, improvement of existing products and troubleshooting within the production of existing products.

You will work according to instructions, general guidelines and applicable GxP requirements, while taking ownership of project execution, experimental design and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead one or more projects and project teams within vaccine formulation and process development.
  • Set and manage expectations, performance goals, timelines, resources and project risks.
  • Maintain up-to-date project planning files and project updates.
  • Follow applicable product development, transfer and site-to-site transfer methodologies.
  • Discuss assignments and priorities with project teams and stakeholders.
  • Design and plan experiments based on project timelines, instructions and general guidelines.
  • Motivate multidisciplinary teams to work towards shared project objectives.
  • Stay actively involved in the operational laboratory or production environment.
  • Identify deviations, assess project impact and investigate root causes.
  • Propose improvements based on investigation outcomes and project findings.
  • Interpret experimental results and determine the next steps together with the project team.
  • Write statements, assessments, protocols, memos, reports and regulatory documentation.
  • Ensure activities are performed under applicable GxP requirements.
  • Support pilot batches, consistency batch productions, small-scale batches for studies and seed productions where required.
  • Propose the introduction of new methods, techniques or process improvements.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in one or more technical areas when applicable.
  • Keep track of developments, techniques and literature within the discipline.
  • Use scientific literature to support product and process development.

Requirements

You are a scientifically strong and structured professional who can combine technical depth with project ownership. You are able to lead multidisciplinary work, manage expectations and make informed decisions based on experimental results, timelines and project risks.

You communicate clearly with stakeholders, work accurately in a regulated environment and contribute proactively to process development, troubleshooting and continuous improvement.

Your background

  • BSc, MSc or PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Process Technology or a related field.
  • Equivalent practical experience may also be suitable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with scaling up chemical or biotechnological production processes.
  • Experience with laboratory operations in a regulated environment.
  • Experience working under GxP guidelines.
  • Familiarity with process development, formulation development or vaccine-related production processes is preferred.
  • Knowledge of project management principles.
  • Experience with transfer methodologies is a plus.
  • Ability to interpret experimental data and translate findings into project decisions.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management and documentation skills.
  • Proactive, analytical and able to work independently within a complex project environment.
